Swim Good

It’s safe to say that swimwear and I are as inseparable as Ben and Jerry. Yep, I’m
one of those annoying people on Instagram that seems to always be experiencing
summer and is wearing a different swimsuit in every 5th post. However this annoying
quality of mine, has over time lead me to believe I’m somewhat of a swimwear
connoisseur and as we are about to head into yet another summer, now seems to be the perfect time to accept that I should have stopped saying “yes I want fries with
that”, attempted to clean eat for half a day and work out what the hell is going to be the “thing” in swim for 2015.

The wonderful thing about the evolution of swim fashion is that every season, more
and more fashion brands expand their lines to include swimwear, which this season
has meant that almost anything goes. From long sleeves and high waisted bottoms
to super sexy rasher vests and crazy tribal prints, here we give you a sample of what
you’re about to see all over your social media feeds, and what you need to get on
your bod to stay ahead of the game.

The first thing you’re going to have to be OK with is things are getting meshy. Cut
outs and mesh paneling aren’t going anywhere. And really, why would we want them
to disappear? Mesh paneling is the best way to show skin but still keep it tasteful, a
bit of faux nudity on the beach is everyone’s friend right? Minimal Animale have been
the leaders in incorporating mesh paneling into swimwear for sometime now, but it
seems the rest of the swim world has finally jumped on the bandwagon.

This trend is just one of many optical illusions that the swimwear gods have blessed
us with. Mesh in all the right places means you’ll feel like a Victoria’s Secret model,
when in reality you’re moonlighting as an extra in a KFC commercial. Expect to see
your favorite cuts with this faux nudity option.

With thanks to the likes of Charlotte Free and Chloe Norgaard and their cotton candy
hair and drool worthy Doc Marten collections, just when you thought you’d had
enough floral dresses and flannel shirts, the 90s have managed to creep their way
into the swimwear world. It’s time to embrace your inner Supermodel and start
jogging down the beach in slow motion ala CJ Parker. The high cut one piece is also
back in a big way. This style of swim is the perfect trend that’s instantly flattering
without any prep work. A high cut one piece can make even the shortest gals’ legs
look like they go up to her armpit and better still, means you don’t have to think about
doing 200 pushups before you go to the beach.

Something else you’re going to get a huge serving of this season is tribal. From
Aztec prints to kaleidoscopic lions, the tribal trend has evolved from the clichés of
leopard and vague alignments of dots and dashes. This trend definitely isn’t for the
feint hearted, with the full integration of photographic imagery, the tribal trend wearer
isn’t going to be lost at sea any time soon. Designers such as Mara Hoffman and
Trina Turk deliver primitive patterns that take tribal to a whole new level. Add to that,
the entire cast of the Lion King seen of everything from rasher vests to the tiniest
Brazilian cut bottoms and you’ve got yourself one kickass look at me trend.

An emphasis on patterns and graphics, once again creates distraction to the eye and
provides you with yet another way to look banging on the beach, better still, this
means mixing and matching is actually an option. Gone are the days where a Kinder
Surprise-esque approach to bikinis would be frowned upon, if you can’t find a
matching set, it may actually be a blessing in disguise.

Finally, the holy grail of swimwear is finally upon us. Yes, Swim 2015 is the season
that has trends that guaranteed will look good on everyone. Perhaps this will finally
be the summer where I manage to wear a new piece, every single day. I’d just also
like to give one last shout out to the swimwear gods for having our backs this
season, with the simple fact that there was not a hint of white anywhere to be seen.
After the “I go see through when wet” epidemic that spread across the globe last
year, I think it’s safe to say that we can all breathe a sigh of relief and swim good in
Summer 2015.
